Recurrent Human Health Complaint Process

Recurrent Human Health Complaint Process

The AER’s recurrent human health complaints process was developed to help to address concerns raised by multiple individuals over multiple years about the impacts energy development may have on their health and surrounding environment. Concerns examined under this process cannot be resolved through our standard complaints process as they are often complex and require collaboration by several government agencies to resolve, including Alberta Health.

The recurrent human health complaints process is led by the AER’s chief environmental scientist, who works with applicable government agencies, stakeholders, and indigenous peoples to conduct a technical assessment of the complaints. The assessment looks at industry performance and evaluates complaints about environmental conditions linked to energy development to identify technical gaps in knowledge. If gaps are identified, we make recommendations to help resolve concerns.
