On January 29, 2018, the AER will introduced a new online process for submitting applications and notifications for activities that require approval under the Water Act.
New and amendment applications for approval under the Water Act will be submitted through OneStop. Affected submissions include
Applications for water-use licences (including temporary-diversion licences) and submissions regarding water-use monitoring and reporting using the online “Water Use Reporting System” will not be affected.
The information required in an application for Water Act approval has not changed.
Applicants are encouraged to submit related applications (i.e., applications related to the same project) at the same time, as bundled applications. This will allow the AER to consider all aspects of a project through one decision-making process rather than repeating the process for each related application.
Project location information must be submitted as a digital spatial file.
Notifications for Water Act codes of practice must also be submitted through OneStop.
Applicants must comply with all AER requirements, the Water Act, codes of practice, the AER’s dam safety program, and the Alberta Wetland Policy.
Applications will be processed through two review levels in OneStop: baseline review (automated) and additional review (manual). The baseline review ensures that the application is complete and meets minimum technical requirements. All applications go through this process. After the baseline review, the system determines whether more review is needed (based on criteria outlined on the risk page). Applications that are more complex will also be routed for manual review.
