Jan 08, 2013
The following reports are available on the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) website www.ercb.ca under Publications : Publications Available : Special Reports:
- CNRL Incident Report
This is Canadian Natural Resources Limited’s (CNRL) technical report to the ERCB regarding the January 3, 2009, surface release of bitumen emulsion in the Primrose East development area of CNRL’s Primrose and Wolf Lake project. Primrose East is approximately 350 kilometres northeast of Edmonton. CNRL’s analysis and conclusions are included in its report. CNRL submitted its final investigation report to the ERCB in February 2011.
- ERCB Incident Report
This report provides the ERCB’s review and analysis of the bitumen emulsion release incident. It includes a summary of CNRL’s and the ERCB’s views on the geology at Primrose East, probable bitumen emulsion release pathway scenarios, and factors that may have contributed to the release. It also provides an overview of project operations before the release. The ERCB believes that the two reports provide useful information for industry that helps with the understanding of, and that promotes further research into, factors affecting reservoir containment.
