The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) will hold a public hearing of applications 1842705, 1851246, and 1851250. The hearing will be scheduled after requests to participate are filed. If there are no participants, the AER may cancel the hearing and decide on the applications without further notice.
Description of the Applications
Bashaw Oil Corp. applied under section 2.020 of the Oil and Gas Conservation Rules to drill and operate three proximity-critical sour wells on a multiwell padsite to be located at Legal Subdivision (LSD) 09, Section 35, Township 49, Range 07, West of the 5th Meridian. The wells would be directionally drilled to bottomhole locations at 04-01-50-07W5, 15-35-49-07W5, and 08-34-49-07W5, targeting crude oil in the Nisku formation. The wells would have a maximum hydrogen sulphide (H2S) content of 211.5 moles per kilomole (21.15%), and the cumulative completion/servicing H2S release rate would be 1.15 cubic metres per second (m3/s) with a corresponding emergency planning zone of 0.88 kilometres (km). The padsite would be located about 2.3 km east of Rocky Rapids.

How can I apply to participate in the hearing?
Subject to any directions regarding participation that may be made by the panel, if you wish to participate in the hearing, you must file a request to participate even if you have already filed a statement of concern with the AER..
Your request to participate must include the information set out under section 9(2) of the Alberta Energy Regulator Rules of Practice (Rules of Practice).
Send one copy of the request to Bashaw Oil Corp. and one copy to the hearing coordinator. Submissions should be PDF documents with bookmarks, page numbers (with the first page in the document being numbered page one), and optical character recognition.
You must submit your request by 4:00 p.m. on the filing date below.

Is this a public process?
Yes. Section 49 of the Rules of Practice requires that all documents and information filed for a proceeding be placed on the public record. If you file a submission, you must not include any personal information that you do not want to appear on or are not authorized to put on the public record. Section 49(2) of the Rules of Practice states how to apply to the AER for an order to keep information confidential.
If my request to participate is approved, can I apply to get reimbursed for hearing-related costs?
Yes. To seek advanced payment or repayment of hearing-related costs, you must apply according to Directive 031: REDA Energy Cost Claims.
What falls outside of the AER’s jurisdiction?
Submissions relating exclusively to compensation for land use are not dealt with by the AER and should be referred to the Alberta Surface Rights Board.
