The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) continues to improve its rules, requirements, and processes to ensure the safe, efficient, orderly, and environmentally responsible development of hydrocarbon resources.

A review of two informational letters has resulted in the following changes.

IL 82-11: Preservation of Archaeological, Palaeontological, and Historical Resources: Policy Update has been reviewed and is considered no longer necessary as the process is covered under Directive 056: Energy Development Applications and Schedules. Additional information can also be found on Alberta Culture’s website (http://www.culture.alberta.ca/heritage-and-museums/programs-and-services/land-use-planning/).

IL 2002-01: Principles for Minimizing Surface Disturbance in Native Prairie and Parkland Areas has been reviewed and reformatted as Manual 007: Principles for Minimizing Surface Disturbance in Native Prairie and Parkland Areas. Revisions include minor clarification of certain principles and updating of the map and references.

IL 82-11 and IL 2002-01 are rescinded as a result of this review.
