Suspension Requirements for Wells

Well status is set with PETRINEX (formerly the Petroleum Registry of Alberta), and the corresponding Licence Status is set via the AER Digital Data Submission System (DDS). Well and Licence status relationships should align. For a list of valid combinations, refer to the attached Well / Licence Status Matrix.

Supplemental Information

Any questions related to Directive 013, the Inactive Well Compliance Program, the Inactive Well Licence List, and suspension submissions on the AER Digital Data Submission (DDS) system can be sent to the welloperations inbox (welloperations@aer.ca). Please read Directive 013, Bulletin 2014-19, and related FAQs and make sure that your questions are not already answered in one of these documents since they will be deemed lower priority due to the high volume of emails received on a daily basis.

Inactive Well Compliance Program
The inactive well compliance program completed its second year of a five year program on March 31, 2017. The program will bring into compliance a backlog of inactive wells that did not meet requirements in Directive 013. The IWCP Year Two Final Report summarizes the current progress of the program. The IWCP Year One Final Report is also available.

Licensee-specific compliances for year one and year two and the target quotas for year three are available (in spreadsheet form) in the IWCP Annual Target Quota and Progress Report.
