Revised Edition of Directive 077: Pipelines – Requirements and Reference Tools

Mar 21, 2011

This bulletin announces the revised edition of Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) Directive 077: Pipelines—Requirements and Reference Tools, effective March 21, 2011. This edition replaces the previous edition, issued May 19, 2010.

The purpose of Directive 077 is to amalgamate all pipeline technical publications or technical materials into a single document for easy reference. The directive has two parts. Part A contains requirements and Part B contains reference tools, with information on specific topics but no new requirements.

What’s New in Revised Directive 077?

The following three sections, which incorporate content from existing documents, are new:

Part A: Requirements

  • Section 5: Adoption of CSA Z662-07, Annex N, as Mandatory

Part B: Reference Tools

  • Section 4: Joint Use of Right-of-Way
  • Section 5: Use of Concrete Slabs for Pipeline Protection at Pipeline Crossings of Roads

Directive 077 is also updated, including revisions to the wording of the requirements in Part A, to improve clarity and consistency.

With the release of this revised edition of Directive 077, the source documents for the new sections, listed below, as well as IL 89-07: Indirectly Fired Heater Coils for Pipeline Service, are therefore rescinded:

  • Directive 041: Adoption of CSA Z662-03, Annex N, as Mandatory
  • IL 80-11: Joint Use of Right of Way
  • IL 91-04:The Use of Concrete Slabs at Pipeline Crossings of Highways and Roads

The revised edition of Directive 077 and a summary of the notable clarifications of the requirements are available on the ERCB Web site www.ercb.ca under Industry Zone : Rules, Regulations, and Requirements : Directives.
