Water Licensing in OneStop

In mid-2025, the AER will begin to process energy-related applications for water use licences under the Water Act (including temporary diversion licences) through OneStop. Please continue to use the current water licensing systems you are familiar with, such as WATERS and WURS, at this time. In addition, term licence applications will continue to be accepted through the EPEA.WA.Applications@aer.ca inbox. You can also continue to use OneStop for Water Act applications.

About OneStop

OneStop is the AER’s application review technology that processes energy- and resource-related applications in Alberta.

When an operator submits an application into OneStop, the technology uses a complex set of rules to determine the necessary level of review. Lower risk applications (or components of an application) can be approved automatically through OneStop within minutes, as they’re considered routine with no impact on public safety or the environment. All other applications (or components of an application) are redirected to technical experts for additional review and assessment.
