Emergency Response

Industry duty holders must promptly notify nearby residents, local authorities, and the AER in an emergency at their facilities. Our priority is public and environmental protection, and we ensure industry duty holders take immediate action to respond to the incident and limit impacts to the public, property, wildlife and the environment. AER emergency response personnel may deploy to the incident location, depending on the circumstances and incident classification level. An emergency classification can change as new information emerges. This metric is the number of AER emergency responses classified by Emergency Response Level (as per Directive 071) and by incident date. Incidents are posted on the Compliance Dashboard on aer.ca.

AER Directive 071: Emergency Preparedness and Response and Manual 026: Emergency Preparedness and Response Guidance, set out the planning requirements and contents for emergency response plans (ERP) applicable to resource developments, including geothermal developments.
