The AER assesses and triages a variety of incidents, audits, and inspections in determining which require investigation. Investigations are undertaken when the AER has a reasonable belief that an offence has occurred, it may have been preventable, and a responsible party has been identified. Depending on complexity, an investigation may take from three months to two years to complete. Check out this link for more information on How We Conduct an Investigation.
