Facility Status

The AER tracks the movement of facilities through their life cycle to ensure orderly and responsible development.

An active facility is one that is reporting production throughputs.

An inactive facility is one that has had no production throughputs for twelve months (six months for certain larger facilities).

A decommissioned (abandoned) facility has been permanently dismantled and the equipment has been removed from the site.

A facility will receive a reclamation certificate once the site has been returned to an equivalent land capability.

This graph shows a snapshot of the total number of facilities as of a certain point in time. For each of the past years, the last snapshot is taken on December 31 of that year. For the current year, the snapshot is taken once a month.
