Companies looking to develop oil sands mines must submit applications under the Oil Sands Conservation Act requesting our approval of their fluid tailings management plans. These plans must align with the Government of Alberta’s Lower Athabasca Region: Tailings Management Framework for the Mineable Athabasca Oil Sands.
