AER orders are legal documents formally permitting, directing, or prohibiting specific actions. Orders can be issued for different purposes; for example, we might order a company to
- reduce its normal well spacing;
- close or abandon a facility; or
- stop an unsafe activity or operation.
Orders help us ensure that oil and gas companies operate in a safe and environmentally responsible way.

Orders and Approvals Index
The AER maintains an Index of AER Orders and Approvals by field and area, listing all active oil, oil sands, and gas orders. Search the index of AER orders by field and type to find active orders related to energy and mineral resource development.
