Purpose of this Directive
This directive has been prepared in support of the Subdivision and Development Regulation, which requires developers and property owners applying for a subdivision or development permit to identify the location of abandoned wells during planning and to appropriately address them in the proposed development.
Directive 079 sets out requirements specific to abandoned wells, such as setback distances and testing; provides guidance to ensure that abandoned wells are identified and appropriately located within subdivisions and developments; and details the protocol for locating and testing abandoned wells.
